Why I Bought A Tractor
I live in the city of Huntsville on half an acre. I own no farmland
at all. So, why buy a tractor?
One of my enduring memories growing up in middle Tennessee was
visiting my grandparents' and uncles' farms. I would always hear the tractors
working away with that distinctive Deere sound. (At the time I thought
all tractors sounded like that. Only later did I discover that it was
a uniquely Deere sound.)
(Reason 1) I wanted
to reclaim some of that childhood memory.
My wife operates a pre-school (NOT a day-care). Most of her city
students have no connection to a farm. They don't understand basics such
as that milk and hamburger come from cows. They find tractors mystical when
they take field trips to a farm or the tractor store.
(Reason 2) I thought
it would be neat for them and the neighborhood kids to be able to experience
a "real" tractor -- to sit on it, imagine themselves driving, hear
it run, maybe take a hayride behind it.
I like working on car engines. But I find the unique design of
the Deere two-cylinders very appealing.
(Reason 3) I wanted to get my own hands on one to rebuild
it and play with.
(No offense intended to those of you who really WORK with your
tractors.)
